Wicked Characters

You should be able to remember every single character in Wicked, and it's great to read all about your favourites. The musical is fantastic and full of interesting characters, each with their own back story and they're based largely on the novel that provided the inspiration for the musical itself.

For those that haven't heard of the novel, it's worth a read. If the theatre is more your thing, or you prefer to spend the quiet hours of a Sunday afternoon on Partypoker rather than reading, still give it a try! If you love the musical, the book is great.

The musical has been running for years in many locations, and has become a firm favourite of fans of musical theatre. Its original take on the world of Oz helps expand the magical world many fell in love with after seeing the classic 1939 film.

Based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire, Wicked the musical brings the untold story of the witches of Oz to stage. Wicked tells story of two unlikely friends who grow up to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch. Below is a description of all the Wicked Characters.

Wicked Characters

Elphaba, born with emerald skin, is smart, feisty, and a social outcast.  She is isolated by others, including her father who is also the governor of Munchkinland.  At school, she meets Galinda (also known as Glinda later).  After a difficult introduction, they later become best friends.  A series of events change Elphaba's life and she becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the West.
Galinda is bubbly, beautiful, and popular.  She is used to getting her way and is determined to climb up the social ladder.  She later changes her name to "Glinda" in honor of one of her professors and to impress Fiyero.  After a series of events, she is put into the limelight and becomes Glinda the Good Witch.
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the unofficial leader of Oz.  He is a mysterious man with a dark agenda.
Fiyero is a handsome prince who doesn't take school and life too seriously.  He is initially attracted to Galinda, but later sees Elphaba in a different light.
Madame Morrible is the Head Mistress at Shiz University.  She also mentors Elphaba in the sorcery class she teaches.  She later becomes the press secretary for the Wizard and assists him in his agenda.
Nessarose is Elphaba's younger sister.  She is highly dependent on Elphaba because of her disability which has left her in a wheelchair.  Unlike Elphaba, she is the apple of her father's eye.  She later becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the East when she begins to oppress the Munchkinlanders.
Boq is from Munchkinland.  Although small in stature, he attempts to gain the affection of Galinda while at Shiz University.  In order to impress Galinda, he is talked into courting Nessarose, which later has consequences.
Dr. Dillamond, a goat, is the last Animal professor at Shiz University.  He and Elphaba both share the plight of being social outcasts and soon develop a friendship.
